2024 – Meet the IN Team

Keith Digman, Indiana Executive State Director

Experience: I have had the pleasure of working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for nearly 23 years in a variety of roles, which is my professional passion. I enjoy advocating for others and working with them on self-advocacy in my business and personal life.

Why I Joined Columbus: I will start by stating that it is extremely difficult to explain why I joined The Columbus Organization in an abbreviated fashion. There are a countless number of reasons why I was, and am, drawn here. Over many years of my professional life, I have worked alongside a lot of Columbus Organization team members (leadership, management, front line personnel) as a representative of other provider agencies or the Indiana trade association for providers, INARF. If these experiences have shown me anything, it is that The Columbus Organization and it’s team operate at the highest level of professionalism and ethics that I have experienced. The culture represented by the company is one that sets the bar for all other agencies and one which I want to be a part and to which I want to contribute. 

How I describe Columbus to others: I simply describe The Columbus Organization to others as a strong company with an impactful mission that goes above and beyond to ensure that customers and stakeholders are treated with the upmost respect and that everyone involved experiences nothing but positive outcomes. Simply put, if it needs done and it is the right thing to do, it will become a reality.

Outside of Columbus: I have the luxury of doing a lot of volunteering with my children’s school and sports, from coaching to substitute teaching, which they appreciate greatly and tend to enjoy. I enjoy golfing and hanging with my Boxers when I am not working and spending time with my family. I come from a large family, four sisters and two brothers, and I am also an identical twin. We have been a close family as long as I can remember, and I can credit them with who I am today.

Katherine “Katie” Dear, Regional Team Lead

Experience: I taught high school English from 2005-2008. Between 2009-2016, I held various positions at Passages in Columbia City, including Direct Support Professional, Assistant Day Program Manager, Community Supports Coordinator and Day Program Manager. I became a Case Manager with Advocacy Links in 2016, and I made the switch to Columbus in December 2021.

Why I joined Columbus: I began working for Columbus because I saw that Columbus holds the same values as I do working in this field.

How I describe Columbus to others: We provide quality, person-centered services from Case Managers who truly care about the individuals we serve.

Outside of Columbus: I have a husband, 3 children, and a dog at home. My husband and I have a band, making music our weekend hobby.

Adrienne Jessie, Regional Team Lead

Experience: I have been a Case Manager for 7 years. Prior to that I was a Developmental Therapist through First Steps.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because they are dedicated to providing person centered plans based on the needs of the individuals we work with.

How I describe Columbus to others: I describe Columbus as a great place to work, where one enjoys team collaboration and support to be able to provide the best services possible. 

Outside of Columbus: I have 3 children and enjoy spending time with them. Our family enjoys various activities such as hiking and swimming. I also enjoy reading as much as I possibly can.

Summer Marshall, Regional Team Lead

Experience: I have over 15 years of experience in the human service field that has allowed me to be able to provide services, referrals and assistance with those that I serve. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization in June 2014. They have allowed me, due to my background and experience in human services, to help and assist others in achieving their life goals while living and growing within themselves. 

How I describe Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is a great company to work for that allows me to better myself and provide support to the teams/families that I serve. I feel that The Columbus Organization is focused on providing the upmost care to the individuals that we serve. 

Outside of Columbus: In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and international traveling.

Kayla Thornton, Regional Team Lead

Experience: I have worked with individuals with disabilities for over 10 years. I began as a Direct Support Staff, transitioned to a QDDP and then became a Case Manager where I have served for the last 6 years.

Why I joined Columbus: The Columbus Organization has allowed me to continue to advocate and ensure that the voice of every individual is heard. I have a passion for building relationships, understanding the vision of every person and allowing them to give me the opportunity to help them reach their journey towards their meaningful life. 

How I describe Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization focuses on the core elements to support individuals in discovering and building their vision of a good life. The company strives to advocate, establish deep connections, and build support within all realms of Case Management.

Cari Bieritz, Team Leader

Experience: I have 8 years’ experience in case management and 5 years’ experience as a Case Manager supervisor. I have over 20 years’ experience total in this field working as a QIDP before becoming a Case Manager.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because their values match closely with those of my own and the personable nature of the administrative staff really makes me feel at home.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe The Columbus Organization as a great Social Services organization that assists people with Intellectual Disabilities in achieving the life they desire.

Outside of Columbus: When I am not working, I enjoy time at home with my family consisting of my life partner, my 2 sons, our 2 dogs, our reptiles, and our chickens. I enjoy time outdoors and enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, yoga, and the beach.

Callista Gordon, Team Leader

Experience: I have seven years’ experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. I decided there was so much more to learn in order to help the populations who are most vulnerable, and I wanted to do just that! That was my motivator to continue my education to obtain my master’s degree.

Why I joined Columbus: The values of The Columbus Organization, it’s reputation, and it’s long-standing presence in our community made it an easy choice. I am proud to be a part of this company.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus values the consumers and families in which we serve. Columbus is supportive and passionate about the work and services that they provide.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two young boys. We enjoy traveling, nature, and new adventures! Outside time is our favorite time. In between, I enjoy doing a few hours of clinical work as a therapist on some weekends. Helping others is a value that I hold close to me. 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2019 at IU South Bend. I received my Master’s of Social Work degree with a concentration on Clinical Practice in 2022.

Jennifer Hicks, Team Leader

Experience: I started my career as a direct support professional and fell in love with working in this field. After graduating from college, I have worked in several environments ensuring all individuals learn skills to live their best life. I want to bring that knowledge and experience to case management services.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus Organization after several years with BDDS. I wanted to continue in the field that I love and have spent my whole adult life in. This is an opportunity to share my experience and knowledge in a new way.

How I describe Columbus to others: We are advocates and support for individuals who deserve to live their best life. We want to ensure that everyone gets that chance by ensuring all the tools are in place for individuals to live their best life.

Outside of Columbus: I was born and raised in the small town of Frankton, and I am always giving back to the community. I am the founder of Eagle Cupboard and The Clothes Garden, two charitable assistance programs for the use of anyone in town.

Nichole Mendenhall, Team Leader

Experience: I have served the ID/DD population for the last 21 years. I had started off working in group homes and supported living homes as direct care staff and worked my way up to upper management.

Why I joined Columbus: I realized that my passion lied in case management and went on to further my education to be able to help the very same people who inspired me.

How I describe Columbus to others: Columbus is an organization that values each and every individual we serve. They go above and beyond to make sure that the individuals that we serve are always first and that they get the best quality of care. Columbus is a family oriented business and our individuals are the heart of what we do. I could not see myself working for any other organization out there.

Outside of Columbus: I can be found spending my days with my family and friends. I also enjoy reading, shopping, and spending time with the ones I love.

Nuria “Rhea” Romero, Team Leader

Experience: I have worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for over 10 years. I have 10 years of DD waiver experience.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I had a working relationship with Columbus Case Managers while working for a provider. I was impressed by Columbus’s professionalism. Columbus’s Case Managers dedication for meaningful life for the individuals they served, and that Columbus strived to service the Spanish speaking community.

How I describe Columbus to others: Columbus makes it a priority to service families that are Spanish speaking as well as other languages. Columbus emphasizes and strives to ensure that the individuals we serve desires for a meaningful life is the company’s Mission Statement.

Outside of Columbus: In my free time I like to camp and go kayaking. I started White Water Kayaking in 2019 and I love spending time with my family.

Samantha Sanders, Team Leader

Experience: My first experience working with I/DD individuals was in high school, as a volunteer with United Cerebral Palsy. Before becoming a Case Manager in 2015 I held various positions in the field including DSP, Program Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor of Residential Services.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because I identified with their mission and person-centered planning approach. 

How I describe Columbus to others: I describe our organization as a company that provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy traveling, British TV, and spending time with family.

Kelly Straub, Team Leader

Experience: 5 years

Why I joined Columbus: To advocate for individual and ensure their “good life” is being met by bringing in community resources, providers, natural resources, and supports into their lives.  

How I describe Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization genuinely cares about the individuals they serve and always puts them first! 

Outside of Columbus: I love the outdoors-nature, camping, hiking. I love the beach and sunshine!

Sarah Stults, Team Leader

Experience: I have a total of 15 years of experience in social work. My experiences range from working with youth in residential treatment facilities, independent living for older youth, foster care, and case management.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus to be able to help individuals in my community live their best life! I love building relationships with consumers and getting to know their unique qualities and traits that make them special. I also was drawn to the flexibility Columbus provided me to have a good work/life balance.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a community of people with a common goal of assisting people live their best lives in their communities. My experience has shown that Columbus brings a diversity of people with unique gifts and talents that serve our community in a way that empowers our consumers and supports our team.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy being in a leadership role in my church’s children’s ministry as well as advocating for foster families and youth in my community.  My spare time is spent with my husband and two children who enjoy being with their extended family or having movie nights together.

Thomas Bennett, Senior Case Manager

Experience: I have twelve years of experience with the Aged and Disable Waiver population. I am fully committed to advocating and care managing my southern Indiana caseload of individuals supported.

Why I joined Columbus: The privilege of working with such great people, the benefits and the perk of being able to work from home was also a key as to why I wanted to join Columbus. 

How I explain Columbus to others:  The Columbus Organization is such a great organization. My coworkers and supervisors are so supportive, understanding, professional and courteous. The benefits, technical support and employee support are all outstanding.  

Outside of Columbus: My hobbies are cooking, gardening, reading, and outdoor activities such as camping and fishing. I live in Bedford, Indiana with my Fiancé and all of my close family members live nearby in this same area.

Elizabeth Alexander, Case Manager

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because I was looking to make a change and had a good working relationship with Pat Herrera and admired her leadership. So, when she let me know, there was an opening at The Columbus Organization and I would be on her team, I jumped at the opportunity.

How I describe Columbus to others: The Case Managers at Columbus care about the quality of services we provide and are passionate about putting the needs of the individuals we serve first.

Outside of Columbus: I have an active life; I have a close relationship with my family and have 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren who I adore, who keep me on my toes on a daily basis. My boyfriend and I like to travel, and we go to concerts and shows across the United States; so far, I have been to 42 of the 50 states! I think health and fitness is important, so you can usually find me at the gym, SPENGA, or riding my bike in my spare time.

Asha Alvarado, Case Manager

Experience: 10 years experience in social services.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus to expand my experience in the social services field and to be a part of helping my Spanish speaking community gain access to supports that will allow them to live their best life.

How I describe Columbus to others: I describe The Columbus Organization as a company that truly cares about their clients and employees. They understand the importance of work life balance.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy Latin Dancing, working out, baking cakes, and learning about wine. I love being active and trying new things. I am a proud aunt to seven nieces and nephews that are amazing!

Tesla Alvarado, Case Manager

Experience: My experience comes from internships/practicums. My most recent practicum was at Mohawk Trails Elementary where I was able to work alongside two social workers. I was then hired as a Special Education IA. I got experience working with students with IEP’s and Behavioral Plans.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because everyone deserves a chance to achieve the type of life that they want for themselves. Not everyone knows how to achieve it though. I want to help people reach the resources that they may need to achieve independence and overall content with the life that they have.

How I describe Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is an organization made up of a group of professionals whose main job is to help people with physical and intellectual disabilities, of any age, achieve independence. We connect people and their families with services needed in order to reach their version of independence.

Outside of Columbus: Outside of Columbus, my focus is my family. I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls, and they are my everything. I also am going back to school to obtain my master’s in social work. For fun I like to hang out with my friends or watch my favorite shows on Netflix.

Rebeccah Andrews, Case Manager

Experience: Almost 7 years 

Why I joined Columbus: I don’t remember the initial reasons I chose to come to Columbus, However I stay because I believe the company strives to advocate for the rights and needs of our clients while also providing a healthy, supportive, enjoyable work environment for their employees.

How I describe Columbus to others: Columbus Organization is a large company that provides more than 7 states with different social services, such as Care Coordination, Direct Support professionals, and Nursing/wellness coordination. However, it is my understanding that at this time Case Management is the only service provided in the state of Indiana.  Columbus Org is known for their large population of bilingual Case Managers specifically Spanish speaking. 

Outside of Columbus: I am a wife and a mom to 2 teenage boys. When I am not playing taxi driver, leading middle school book club, helping with homework, watching Soccer games, or leading a women’s bible study at church, I enjoy spending my free time reading books, hanging out with my family, taking pictures of said family and turning those pictures into beautiful scrapbooks, I enjoy traveling and will jump at any chance to go on a grand adventure whether that’s a road trip across the country or a walk in the park looking for bugs.

Nelida Arreola, Case Manager

Experience: I have four years of Case management experience with Mental health, and Domestic Violence. I have six years of experience working with consumers with developmental disabilities.

Why I joined Columbus: I want to continue to make a difference for our disabled population by supporting, assisting, guiding and advocating. I want my consumers to have a meaningful day based on their wants and needs. I want to continue to educate parents/guardians by providing them with community resources and direction to accomplish desired goals for their loved one.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe Columbus Organization as an agency whose goal is to provide a meaningful day and empower consumers with developmental disabilities as well as families and local communities.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy spending time with my family, knitting, cooking, outdoor activities, wine tasting, refurbishing homes and furniture.

Dana Atwell, Case Manager

Experience: 10+ years in Case Management. 20+ in the human services field. I started out working in a group home after high school.

Why I joined Columbus: I had stepped away from case management for a while when an opportunity was presented to me. If I am being very honest, I had become disillusioned with a lot of the barriers that existed at that time to providing for the needs of the individuals that we serve, but I really missed the interaction with those people so  I decided to give it a try and I have not looked back.

How I describe Columbus to others: No organization is perfect, and we do not have any easy job at times (although I would say it is one of the best). The thing that I like most about Columbus is the focus that they have on continually trying to improve and at the end of the day, the focus is on the families and individuals that we serve. They are the reason that we are here.

Outside of Columbus: I live in Monrovia IN with my husband, Allen, my mother, and my son. We recently celebrated 29 years and we have four grown children- Ellen-30 (Trey), Samuel-28 (Haley), Jack-25, Annelise-22 (Jessie).  We have two AMAZING grandbabies -Wrenley-6 and Quade-Almost 2. We have two dogs (Smeagol Beagle and Lucy), 4 cats (Izzy, Diesel, Chuck, and Daisy) and two rats (Bunnie and Sophie-They are cute, I promise). We raised standardbred racehorses while our kids were growing- up so we love harness racing. I also love herbalism, listening to live music, cooking, Football, College Basketball, (HOOSIERS!!) trying new restaurants, biking, outdoor activities, tea, flowers, and travelling. We have a HUGE extended family, including almost 30 nieces/nephews and I absolutely love spending time with them.

Education: I completed HS at Monrovia HS and attended IUPUI/ IUB after HS but did not complete my BS until several years later with four kids in tow. I also have certificates in Family Life Education, Case Management, and Integrative Nutrition.  I am about halfway through a master’s degree and plan to finish eventually.

Daniella Ayala, Case Manager

Experience: Before joining Columbus, I was a registered behavior technician (RBT) and provided one-on-one ABA therapy to children on the autism spectrum.

Why I joined Columbus: I have a passion for being a resource to individuals with physical and mental disabilities.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is dedicated in providing quality services to assist with the development of individuals as well as providing support to the families.

Outside of Columbus: I am from East Chicago, Indiana and of Mexican descent. I am multilingual, fluent in English and Spanish and intermediate in Portuguese.

Jennifer Baldwin, Case Manager

Experience: I have over 30 years of experience working with individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities at various levels from direct support to case management.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because my passion is providing resources and support that individuals and families need to make their lives better.  

How I describe Columbus to others: Columbus provides case management services that are focused on the individuals and their wants and needs.  Columbus has a nationwide presence but has a small-company feel to it.

Outside of Columbus: I really enjoy crafting, creating cards and spending time with family and friends in my free time. I am a 4-H leader in a club geared especially toward children with disabilities.

Leonel “Lee” Barber, Case Manager

Experience: I have been a Case Manager for only 4 months, but I have 14 years’ experience working as a Direct Support Professional. I help my clients find and use available services that meet their individual needs. I enjoy working with all the individuals and their families. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because I want to be an important key to help our individuals live a meaningful and fulfilling life. I also wanted to continue working with individuals and their families.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization strives to make a positive difference in our individual’s life. We have an open-door policy to better serve our individuals. We communicate with our individuals who we serve honestly.

Outside of Columbus: I was born and raised  in Angola, Africa.  I have lived in Indiana for almost 30 years. I have one son who is 13 years old, I enjoy going to the gym and watching sports on television. I love to spend time with my girlfriend.

Amber Barrett, Case Manager

Experience: I was the director of social services for 18 years in a nursing facility before becoming a case manager 3 years ago.

Why I joined Columbus: I have always been driven to help out others who need assistance in one way or another. I enjoy advocating for people.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a family oriented company who takes the time to advocate for people to obtain things to meet their needs so that they can live their best life in their community.

Outside of Columbus: I have been married to my husband Jared for over 13 years. We have three awesome children. We have two german shepherds and we love being outside and taking trips to local places or out of state. We are very family oriented!

Jennifer Barrios, Case Manager

Experience: I worked for BCFS for a year as a bilingual case manager in the refugee camps in one of the USA immigration borders in El Paso, Texas. My job was to reunite sponsors with minors. Then, I returned to Indiana and found a job with Elkhart County Health Department, as a social worker. For three years, I worked with the Hispanic community, assisting mothers in accessing prenatal care, Medicaid, and other resources. Both jobs were personally rewarding.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization to help adults and children with intellectual and physical challenges. To be able to translate work into a meaningful experience is ideal. And one way of doing that is to support families by ensuring their safety and stability so that they may succeed.

How I explain Columbus to others: The goal of Columbus is to offer targeted help to adults and children who struggle physically and intellectually. An outcome where those we are charged with helping advance in their lives, is the mission of the Columbus Organization.

Outside of Columbus:

I enjoy going to events and doing activities with my daughter. My daughter enlightens her life every day. She brings me joy, peace, and happiness. I like helping my daughter with her homework and seeing her excel in her education.

Education: I graduated from Indiana University South Bend with two bachelor’s in criminal justice and political science. I am currently pursuing a degree in the nursing field.

Amy Bennington, Case Manager

Experience: Before working at Columbus, I worked for several child abuse and neglect programs including Healthy Families IN Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline and The Children’s Bureau. I am a proud member of the Danville Kiwanis Club, Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition board member, and Hendricks County Prevent Child Abuse.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus after a good friend started working here and I saw what a great company it was. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a fun and supportive place to work while interacting with the best consumers! 

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy spending time with my family, going on vacations, and reading.

Michelle Boller, Case Manager

Experience: I have over 20 years of experience in social services, education and customer service. I use my skill set and education to provide compassionate care to those she serves.  

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I love helping people access resources in my community that helps them live their best life.

How I describe Columbus to others: Columbus is a great organization that fosters a healthy work-life balance and encourages corporate culture.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy cooking, travelling, fishing and playing tennis with my family. I also enjoy working with stepfamilies through my local church.

Kristina Brock, Case Manager

Experience: I have a daughter that was diagnosed with Autism. Because she has been on the Medicaid Waiver for many years, I am very familiar with the services, resources, providers, and waiver budget. I have just begun my Case Management career and am enjoying all that it entails and most importantly its purpose, to help disabled individuals get the care they need and deserve.

Why I joined Columbus: I enjoy helping others and sharing resources that will give them a better life. Columbus does this very thing and I’m excited to have this opportunity to do what I love doing, with them!

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus oversees the services that individuals with disabilities need and use with the Medicaid Waiver. We make sure that they are receiving services they desire and are treated with dignity and respect by their providers.

Outside of Columbus: During my free time, I enjoy doing puzzles, playing cards, watching movies, going to church and special community events, with my family. I also enjoy watching my two daughters play in the lake at our family lake house or at the beach, our happy place.

Education: I graduated from Riley High School in South Bend. I continued my education at Indiana University of South Bend and earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Management with a Minor in Finance.

Christian Bultemeyer, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked with The Columbus Organization for one year. For seven years, I lead the Best Buddies program for high school students. I also interned at Gigi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome Achievement Center.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is an organization full of caring, attentive, warmhearted professionals who want to strive and help individuals with disabilities live the best life as possible.

Outside of Columbus: In my free time, I enjoyed getting outside & going hiking, hammocking and fishing. I enjoy going to sporting events to support the Pacers, Colts and Purdue sports.

Mary Burns, Case Manager

Experience: I have previously worked with children and teens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this role I performed ABA behavioral therapy and taught a range of skills from self-care, language, communication, social, and more. I have also previously been a care coordinator and life skills instructor. I provided my clients, children and adults alike, with age-appropriate techniques to attain goals and access resources. I have provided advocacy for clients and families and coordinated with clients to identify and assess short- and long-term goals.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization to become a part of the solution for individuals with disabilities who might otherwise be struggling or unable to find the services and resources Columbus has to offer.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization opens new opportunities for individuals to create a better quality of life. The Columbus Organization enables individuals with disabilities to acquire community support, resources, and services to live a more meaningful life.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy spending time outside with my dog, going for walks, and doing yard work. On my days off you can find me reading a book or catching up with friends.

Alissa Butler, Case Manager

Experience: I worked in an assisted living facility helping those with their daily living. I assisted children in learning social and emotional skills while being a Skills Coach for the Bowen Center. Most recently, I was a Registered Behavior Technician for children on the Autism Spectrum.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus to discover new ways of helping people with disabilities reach their full potential for a healthy happy life.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus allows people to realize new resources, through meaningful connections, to aide their everyday life.

I have been married for almost five years and I am a mother to one little boy. I like to spend time with my family playing games and with my three dogs.

Valerie Cassity, Case Manager

Experience: I have been in the field since 1989. I began as a group home manager and moved up into administration. I have been doing case management for approximately 25 years.

Why I joined Columbus: The state did not give the company I was working for a contract and I felt Columbus was the best option from those who received a contract.

Outside of Columbus: I am a Mother and recently a Grandmother. I spend time with my family.

Nikki Clawson, Case Manager

Experience: Prior to coming to Columbus Organization, I worked with and provided services to individuals with mental health, intellectual disabilities and addictions for 8 years.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization to be a part of a great company that is committed to serving individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities achieving a more independent and meaningful life. I wanted to be a part of an organization that would allow me to make a positive impact in the lives of those individuals that I am serving.

How I explain Columbus to others: I would describe the Columbus Organization as a company that is committed to the individuals that they serve as well as their families. The organization helps individuals obtain services that can help with providing better independence.

Outside of Columbus: I am a mother of 3. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, doing things outdoors, watching movies, attending sporting events and spending time with animals.

Jenna Davis, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked as a Case Manager since graduating college in 2015. I have experience working at Children’s Bureau for the Community Partners program as well as Cicoa with the Aged and Disabled waiver.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I wanted to make a difference for those with disabilities in my local community.

Shelley DeLee, Case Manager

Why I joined Columbus: I enjoy being a case manager and enjoy working with the individuals on my case load and Columbus gave me the opportunity to do this.

How I explain Columbus to others: I get good support from my supervisors, and Columbus cares about our individuals. 

Outside of Columbus: I am married with 3 sons.  We have a couple dogs and cat.  We like to be in nature and do a lot of homesteading.

Joel Donnan, Case Manager

Experience: I am a graduate of Edison State Community College with an Associates in Marketing and a graduate of Wright State University with a Bachelors in Psychology. After school, I moved to Bloomington with my husband and began employment with Beacon, LLC. in their COVID-19 shelter for the local unhoused community. Due to the efforts of many to get the population vaccinated, the shelter closed on June 30th of 2021 and I was soon hired as a case manager and family visitation supervisor for families in Monroe and surrounding counties. Unfortunately due to lack of hours I had to resign but I happily accepted an offer with Hopebridge, LLC as a Registered Behavioral Therapist. I remained with Hopebride from October of 2021 until August 2024 and my time there was an invaluable experience that I will always cherish.

Why I joined Columbus: The mission and ethics of The Columbus Organization and the holistic approach to care was what initially attracted me. Having so many resources to folks with different backgrounds and experience seemed like a wonderful way to provide services to clients and I had heard nothing but good things from a friend who is also employed with the organization. All this combined with meeting my current team made joining The Columbus Organization a easy and happily made choice.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe The Columbus Organization as a place that has absolutely figured out how best provide care to clients over the organization’s 40 year history by ensuring the client is always first.

Outside of Columbus: I am happily married to my husband, Kaidan, who is both a PhD student and an advisor at Indiana University. We are the parents of two kitties, Primavera and Jack, who are both settling in wonderfully into our new apartment on the West side of Bloomington. Kaidan and I are both avid introverts and home is our favorite place, however, we also love to spend time with our friends and the chosen family that we have found here in town, our home often being the place we invite our loved ones in to for a warm meal and even warmer conversation. I pride in the calm environment we have created within our home and this sense of warmth and care is what I also hope to bring with my service to my clients.

Jessica Dudley, Case Manager

Experience: I have been a Case Manager for the Waiver program for 13 years, and with Columbus for the last 8 years. I also have experience in working with at risk families and youth involved in the child welfare system. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I am passionate about helping others. Working as a Case Manager for Columbus allows me to connect with, advocate for, and help others achieve their goals. 

How I explain Columbus to others: I would describe Columbus as an employer that is supportive to the community and its employees. They encourage continued training and embrace a team environment. 

Outside of Columbus: I am married with 3 children. I enjoy watching my kids in sports and traveling. I am also involved in animal rescue and a CASA volunteer.

Stephanie Duncan, Case Manager

Experience: I have been in Case Management with The Columbus Organization for over 4 years. The majority of my career has been spent working with Medicaid Waivers. I also have additional experience working with Individuals with Special Needs in the academic setting. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I had friends who worked for them and their reputation as an Employer was phenomenal. I have since experienced how much they value their Employees. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus cares about who they are employing to do this important work. I always tell people that they can’t go wrong with Columbus. If I am not the choice as a Case Manager I can stand firm that my Co-workers can and will take great care of any Consumer. They hire good people that truly care and work hard for our Consumers.

Outside of Columbus: I believe meditation is the key to emotional balance. I enjoy being in nature, travel, lunch dates with friends, and sports photography.

Leanna Elmore, Case Manager

Experience: I have 12+ years of experience working with families, youth, and the IDD community providing services as a QIDP, outpatient/school-based case management, ABA Therapy, and DCS Supervised Visit Facilitator.

Why I joined Columbus: I have a brother and other family members with IDD. From a young age I’ve always wanted to help individuals and families in the IDD community. I joined the Columbus Organization to continue doing just that.

How I explain Columbus to others: People helping people live meaningful lives by coordinating care.

Outside of Columbus: Dancing & entertaining has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve danced professionally since the age of 15 for teams such as The WNBA’s Indiana Fever, The Purdue Dance Team, and The Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders. I continue to stay active teaching dance fit classes and dancing professionally for a local band called Toy Factory. I love traveling, fashion, music, and spending time with friends and family.

Amy Fisher, Case Manager

Experience: 10 years of Waiver Case Management, Work in Waiver Supported Living for a Provider, and Work in an Intermediate Care Facility.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization to become part of a reputable and well-known Indiana company. I was able to keep my ongoing caseload of Individuals and families that I have worked with for many years and this was important to me. The Columbus Organization also has a lot of supports in place for Case Managers, and opportunities for growth.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is a large, reputable company that has experienced recent growth in Indiana. It has also been providing services in other states for many years. The Columbus Organization has recently substantiated a local presence in Fort Wayne, but has been well known in other parts of the state for some time. The Columbus Organization focuses on quality of services and provides helpful supports to Case Managers.

Outside of Columbus: I have a 2 year old daughter. My husband and I own a restaurant together and he is the Chef. We have a 13 year old Lab. We are from Fort Wayne and our families live here. We spend a lot of time with our families.

Experience: I have taught students in Warsaw Community Schools for several years and have classroom experience in grades K-12. I paused my working career for 12 years to stay home and raise my own three children, and when reentering the work force, I was looking for something with more flexibility than teaching full time. My passion for serving those diagnosed with disabilities led me into case management.

Jennifer Fugate, Case Manager

Experience: Before joining Columbus, I served elementary school children in the public-school system. I served as a Behavior Case Manager for Warsaw Community Schools working with k-6th grade students with emotional, physical disabilities and students experiencing trauma in their past and present. I was employed at Warsaw Community Schools for 7 years. Following, I served as a counselor at Little Turtle Elementary in Columbia City, IN working with students k-5th grade. I was employed at Whitley County Consolidation for 1 year.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus desiring to reach deeper into the lives of not only the individual, but also to work deeper within their family environment, social structures and overall environment to ensure each individual lives and experiences life to their fullest.

How I explain Columbus to others: We are an organization that strives to bring individuals with physical, intellectual and emotional disabilities the chance to have their best life through serves that are not known to the public. We create a relationship with each individual to better understand their direct daily, physical, emotional and social needs. We advocate for each person to ensure they are not discriminated against in any way and work to ensure the best care they can receive.

Outside of Columbus: I am married, a mother to a 26-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son. I have 3 grandchildren: 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson.

I love all things nature! I love to hike in all seasons to refresh my mind, body & soul. I am a crazy plant lady, both inside and outdoors. My hobby and side gig is photography. I also completely enjoy camping with friends and family and enjoy relaxing in our backyard patio with our dearest friends. Life is Good!

Gail “Lizzie” Gill, Case Manager

Experience: I was an elementary art teacher for two years in Wayne Township from 2020-2022. After my husband’s job moved us to Bloomington, IN I began working as an RBT at a local ABA clinic. I really enjoyed working with the kids and their families to help them achieve their goals and the life they envisioned for themselves. I worked there for almost two years before moving to the Columbus Organization.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because I wanted to help support others in a way that encouraged independence, confidence, and joy in their day to day lives. I wanted to make sure that individuals and their families have the resources and support they need to achieve their goals and live their best lives!

How I explain Columbus to others: We are an organization that works with individuals and their families to define their goals and provide resources/supports to help achieve said goals. We also work with the individual’s other providers and healthcare services to ensure a team atmosphere focused on the success and support of the consumer.

Outside of Columbus: I am currently in graduate school through Purdue earning a master’s in psychology. In my free time I enjoy trail running, hiking, backpacking, and watercolor painting.

Mary Gongwer, Case Manager

Experience: I started working in college as a Direct Support Professional in a residential setting for two years. After graduation I accepted a position as an Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist at a local autism center and have a total of 5 years’ experience in the field. I started working as a Case Manager in June of 2021.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined TCO because of the support given to the Case Managers and Individuals they serve. I have always had a serving heart and I find it fulfilling to assist others in accomplishing their goals.

How I explain Columbus to others: I tell people that our organization does their best to make sure the individuals we serve can live their best life.

Outside of Columbus: Outside of work, you will find me playing with my boys. In my spare time, I enjoy taking care of my small alpaca farm, gardening, and reading books.  During the summer, my family and I spend most of our time at the lake, paddle boarding, and catching fish and turtles.

Jennifer Gonzalez, Case Manager

Experience: February 6th, 2024 marked my 1 year anniversary at Columbus!

Why I joined Columbus: I needed to start working again after having my youngest, and the whole covid pandemic. Being that I now had two littles at home, I needed a job where I was able to have some say over my scheduling and be a bit more flexible. Previously, I worked as an RBT at an ABA clinic for 8 years. This job gave me a new skill set and experience, as well as  new perspective in the field, while still working with people with disabilities.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a great place to work. I have been fortunate to have a great supervisor who has (and continues to) helped me learn along the way. You get to work with some great people, and hopefully make a difference in their lives.

Outside of Columbus: I have three girls, who are 11, 3, and 1. Life is busy and chaotic, but never dull! We are always at some sort of soccer game, practice or event.

How I explain Columbus to others: I am new to the company, but I have received nothing but a warm welcome and support from the whole team.

Outside of Columbus: I am a disabled veteran and the Commander of the American legion post 437 Selma Indiana. I try to give back to the community, especially the veterans. I am a father of two adult children, have a grandson and a granddaughter on the way.

Loretta Gross, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in this field over 20 years and have seen the spectrum of services, including working as a day program director, a special education classroom aide, in the church ministry for persons with disabilities, providing personal care in the home and community, and as a QIDP and personal care assistant in a long-term care facility for this amazing population. I have also worked as a teacher in grades 3 and 4 before transitioning my career to a care coordinator.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because a family member highly recommended the company, my team lead, and the case managers. My family member uses TCO for her son’s waiver case management needs and has always been satisfied with the services provided. To me, working for The Columbus Organization means that I have an opportunity to serve the population so dear to my heart.

Experience: I have been employed with TCO since August of 2018. I have a combined 7 years of hands-on experience in the field of IDD spectrum.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because it has always been my passion to serve individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. My position allows me to help individuals envision and live their most meaningful life, while creating a meaningful relationship with them. 

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe Columbus as a personable case management provider that always has the best interest of the consumers in mind. Columbus strives for continuous growth of quality in all that we do.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because it has always been important to me to be involved in my community and help others.

How I explain Columbus to others: I say that our organization is ever changing to meet the needs of our individuals and is working towards inclusion and assistance for those in the community who need it most.

Outside of Columbus: I have a daughter, am married and have a pet dog. I like to read all kinds of books and have a goal of 150 books this year. I also like to run and am currently training for a tough mudder and a few upcoming 5ks.

Tia Helming, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in Medicaid Waiver for 10 years. 3 with a residential provider and 7 years in case management.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because the interview process impressed me. Everyone was so incredibly kind and knowledgeable. I also spoke with case managers, who were currently employed and they could not say enough great things about the organization.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe the organization as a tight knit supportive company, where we all support each other to provide the best possible outcome for our individuals.

Outside of Columbus: When I am not doing my case management duties, I enjoy reading, attending community events, and spending time with my cat, Oliver.

Stephanie Hernandez, Case Manager

Experience: After graduating college, I worked at Family and Children’s Center for approximately four years in a group home for teenage boys, helping them learn independent living skills. After this, I worked at AWS as a DSP, then became a Team Leader at the Day Program and ended up as a Program Coordinator, running the Day Program for adults with different abilities. I then worked with children and their families at Meridian Health Services as a Behavior Clinician for two years before moving to Tennessee in 2016. I lived there for 7 years. While there, I worked at Engstrom Community Connections as a Support Coordinator for individuals with different abilities who were receiving waiver funding through the state. I absolutely fell in love with the job. When I returned home to Indiana in November 2022 to be with my family, I accepted my job with The Columbus Organization so that I could continue to do the work I love.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because I wanted to continue working in the same line of work that I enjoy doing. I enjoy having the ability to make my own schedule as well as having a great balance of field and office work. 

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe The Columbus Organization as a company that provides case management services to individuals with different abilities who receive waiver funded services to assist them to live their best lives.

Outside of Columbus: I have a twin sister, who I spend a lot of time with. I have a teenage son who keeps me on my toes, and an adult son who has ventured out on his own. I love all animals and have two dogs, a Beagle mix and a Pomsky / Shiba Inu mix. I enjoy doing anything with art and always have something I am working on. I enjoy cooking, listening to music, watching TV, swimming, and traveling when I have the opportunity. I love looking for shark teeth and have a large jar full of the ones I have found over the years. I fully intend on adding more to my collection and am hoping that I eventually find “the big one” aka: a megalodon tooth, that I have been looking for all these years.

Experience: I have been employed with The Columbus Organization for 5 years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to work with and help those receiving waiver services.

Amy Hoehn, Case Manager

Experience: Before joining Columbus, I had worked as a case manager for River Valley Behavioral Health, where I worked with individuals on the Kentucky state waivers. I also have enjoyed working as a respite caregiver for the last 7 years.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I want to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. Growing up with a sister with a disability, I understand that it can be difficult to find the resources that are available to help. Columbus helped connect my family with these resources and I wanted to do the same for others.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe Columbus as a company that puts the people they serve first. Columbus connects individuals who have disabilities, with the resources available to assist them to live their best life. We are all capable of great things, it’s my job to find out what each person I serve wants and help connect them with the services that can best help them get there.

Outside of Columbus: My husband and I have been married for 12 years, we have 3 school aged children and live on our family farm in Posey County. Together, we enjoy camping, running, fishing, and we are very involved in our community, church, and children’s sports and activities.

Sara Howard, Case Manager

Experience: I had my first experience providing services to individuals with disabilities at the age of 18 when I volunteered as a camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. That experience impacted me in the most positive and profound way. Before joining Columbus as a case manager, I worked for a service provider for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 6 years in multiple capacities; employment services, family services, day services, and even as direct support in a group home. I also have experience in higher education where I worked in admissions, financial aid, and career advising.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus for the challenge and reward to work as a case manager in a field I love and am passionate about, and because I had professional connections with several respected case managers who were happy and proud to be with Columbus.  

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus Organization is made up of professionals who are committed to and believe in being person-centered and helping the individuals they serve live their version of a meaningful life. 

Outside of Columbus: I love my family, friends, and pets and spend as much time as I can with all of them. I enjoy volunteering, fostering, greyhounds, participating in community events, traveling, camping and thrifting.

Victoria Hunt, Case Manager

Experience: I have been in the field for quite some time – I started as a support staff for my younger brother, who has autism and worked in that position for 5+ years. I then worked my way up to an office assistant position, for a local provider and then became a case coordinator, with the same provider. I began working in Case Management in 2019 and have been in this role, ever since.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because they have the same outlook and values as myself – I knew that Columbus would be a good fit, in order to help me grow and succeed, in this field and at my job.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe The Columbus Organization as a positive outlet for families to learn and grow when it comes to waiver services, resources, etc., in our area. I let families know that with Columbus, there will always be someone in their corner, to fight for them and the things families want and need, when it comes to their services.

Experience: I started my career doing direct care in undergrad at Purdue. I later worked for a day program before beginning my case management career in Indianapolis.

Marissa Jessie, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked as a Cashier and Front-End Supervisor at Kroger. I have worked with many individual with developmental disabilities during my three years working there in the sense that they were customers that I helped, I was their coworker, and I was also their supervisor.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because I think it will be a very fulfilling career. I have always loved to help people in different ways and this career is one way of doing so.

How I explain Columbus to others: I would describe the Columbus Organization as an organization in which it’s goals are going out of the way to give everyone any opportunity they can to live their life to the fullest no matter what. This organization helps people do that in a way that it very behind the scenes as well.

Outside of Columbus: I like to use my free time to read many different genres of books and I enjoy exercising in unique ways. I recently got engaged so I currently also use my free time to plan for wedding related things.

Shannon Jones, Case Manager

Experience: I have been employed with The Columbus Organization since 2019. I have previous Case Management experience, having worked directly for the State of Indiana for approximately 3 years. Between my experience working for the State and coming to TCO, I have worked as a behavioral therapist, specializing in children with Autism.

Why I joined Columbus: I find fulfillment in my current role, through creating a personalized approach and deeper understanding of each of the individual clients/families that I serve.

How I explain Columbus to others: I tell other people that I work for an agency that is extremely family and people oriented. We help provide guidance and additional support, to families and individuals in the (ID/DD) disabled community.  I work with a group of people that are very caring and devoted to their consumers and look out for ways to assist one another, as a team.

Outside of Columbus: I spend my time with my husband and baby girl. Family is extremely important to me. As such, I work to honor and preserve this element with my client families, too. My husband and I both enjoy being outside and participating in activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, and canoeing.

Experience: Prior to joining The Columbus Organization two years ago, I worked in management for a provider who specialized in residential and respite services. My favorite part of being a manager was providing staff with training. I have worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe Columbus as a person centered company. We look at the needs of every individual. Providing the best customer service is our goal, I always make sure I return all emails and phone calls the same business day.

Outside of Columbus: In my free time, I enjoy dancing, taking trips with my family and recently I have been exploring meditating.I also enjoy volunteering when I am able to. I am married with three children and moved to Indiana from NYC about ten years ago.

Nancy D. Lee, Case Manager

Experience: I have over 17 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. I have held positions as a Program Manager, Case Manager, and Experienced Intake Case Manager.  In my current position I will be working as Case Manager.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus in 2021 as I respect the values and mission of the company. I am thrilled to be working with others that have the same dedication to supporting families and individuals on the waiver.   

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is an agency that is dedicated to ensuring that the individuals they serve live the most meaningful life possible. They make sure their staff is trained not only in compliance with State Regulations, but also with knowledge of community supports and services that are not on the wavier.

Mary-Kate Litchfield, Case Manager

Experience: Over nearly the past decade, I have been teaching math and math intervention to middle and high school students. With the majority of my teaching experience being in Colorado, I most recently taught in Guildford, England (UK). Within the past few years, I have begun a career shift away from education and towards human services. I began as a Registered Behavior Therapist at Bierman ABA and then continued to human resources and an administrative role at LEL Home Services.

Why I joined Columbus: Although teaching may not have been the perfect fit, I am hopeful and excited to still make a difference in my work each day at The Columbus Organization. A friend has been suggesting case management to me for many months. I am so lucky, delighted, and grateful to be a part of this organization. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Although I am still new to the Columbus Organization and have yet to meet most of the Columbus family, everyone I have met so far works with people as their passion, rather than their job. 

Outside of Columbus: With my first word as a child being “out” – talking about going outside, I have stayed true to that character my whole life by always wanting to be outside. My favorite kinds of weekends are those where I never step foot indoors! I love camping, hiking, road cycling, mountain biking, paddle boarding…etc, the list is endless as long as it’s “out”!

Shailyn Mathews, Case Manager

Experience: Growing up I had an Uncle with developmental disability that was a very active part of my life. At a young age I began volunteering with the local Special Olympics program as a volunteer and coach. After school I worked at local providers as a staff, a program manager, and CPR training staff. During this time I also learned ASL and Spanish to help communicate with families in our organization. While in college I worked in an educational setting through student teaching and eventually maintaining a classroom! For the past ten years I have been the County Coordinator of our local Special Olympics program. 

Why I joined Columbus: After receiving my degree I knew that I wanted to work as a case manager! I chose to work Columbus as I admired the inclusive environment and progressive movement on supporting our consumers!

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a person centered and inclusive company that approaches a consumer with a whole world perspective ensuring that their voices are heard and upheld in every aspect of their lives.

Outside of Columbus: I love my pets! I spend a lot of time attending minor league games (Hockey and Baseball). I love to attend museums and the zoo! I am a lifetime learner and enjoy reading books and crafting in my downtime!

Fabiola Mayorga, Case Manager

Experience: 7 years at Columbus (March 2017)

Why I joined Columbus: Prior to coming to work for Columbus,  I used to work as a Case Manager serving the refugees and immigrants of Allen County. I am compassionate with assisting Spanish speaking families to get the information they deserve by interpreting or translating,  and to offer resources they need in the community.

How I explain Columbus to others: Our agency at Columbus is very individual based and we strive to make sure our individuals have all the information necessary for them to make the best decision that sets them up for success.

Outside of Columbus: I am a mom to 2 little ones and I like to spend my time going to the parks, community events, and supporting local businesses. We are  I started doing portrait photography as a hobby.

Scott McCloud, Case Manager

Experience: Having worked for many years in career fields as diverse as healthcare, retail management and education, becoming a care coordinator/case manager was almost inevitable.  I am fortunate to have a great deal of experience and the knowledge provided to me.  Most recently, I worked as an employment specialist/consultant for Vocational Rehabilitation participants.

Why I joined Columbus: Most people want to make a difference and have a voice in their community; we can’t make a difference in our community unless everyone is involved and is included.  Choosing a great professional leader, team, advocate and provider as an employer is the first step:  The Columbus Organization encompasses all of this.

Experience: I have three years of experience as a Case manager of homeless and mental health population in Catholic Charities NJ.

Outside of Columbus: I am a Wife and mother of two. I’m always interested in exploring new places (parks, restaurants, towns, states, etc.). I like to read, walk/run, I love photography, most of the time you will see me with my camera. But what I l enjoy most is spending time with my children and nature.

Stephanie Munoz, Case Manager

Experience: In the past, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with children with special needs, particularly in the field of teaching. My experience has been very rewarding and enlightening. I had the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of these unique and exceptional individuals. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined this organization with a heartfelt purpose- to become the voice for people with special needs. Witnessing the unique challenges and barriers that individuals with special needs face in our society has deeply moved me. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Compassionate and dedicated organization committed to empowering individuals to help live fulfilling and purposeful lives.

Outside of Columbus: I like working out at multiple gyms including Iron Rails, Anytime Fitness, and the YMCA. Weightlifting is something that I am passionate about. I have two dogs named Oscar and Luna who are both like my children and are very much loved. I spend a lot of time with my family, friends, and my boyfriend.

Jennifer Igney-Noffsinger, Case Manager

Experience: My experience with disabilities is I grew up with a father who was paraplegic. My son has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. My cousin has intellectual disabilities. I believe in inclusion and including everyone. I know what it feels like to be treated as second citizen and I think it is unfair the hoops that we have to jump through to get the services and resources that we need. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus Organization because they believe in empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe our organization as caring individuals who are striving to make sure individuals have the services and resources that they need to succeed.

Outside of Columbus: My family and I love Disney. We love going to the parks. My kids are into 4-H and we spend a lot of time working on our youth development. We try to spend as much time on the lake as we can in the summer.

Madeline Noll, Case Manager

Experience: I taught special education in elementary school for four years. I have worked with individuals with disabilities for many years, from teaching swim lessons, tutoring, teaching, and working 1-1 at summer camps.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus to serve my community and continue to support individuals with disabilities. I have been a special education teacher for 4 years and when I transitioned out of the classroom, I wanted to continue to be involved and support this community.

How I explain Columbus to others: I would describe Columbus as advocate and fight for individuals and their families to live a full and meaningful life. I can’t wait to continue this advocacy work. 

Outside of Columbus: I love to snow ski with my parents and hike in National Parks. I have a three-year-old rescue pup named Miller; we love to spend a lot of time together and go for walks in the neighborhood. I am so proud of my family; I have 3 nieces and 2 nephews, and I love to spend time together.

Shara Oman, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked with providers for over 19 years. I have been direct support staff, house managers, QIDPs, Area Director and an Assistant Branch Director.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization so I can continue being a case manager and assist individuals and their families with individuals being as independent and happy as they are able to in the comfort of their homes. I have met and worked with quite a few case managers from Columbus Organization that I respect and would like to work and learn from them.

How I explain Columbus to others: I would say that everyone that I have met with Columbus Organization is very nice and just want to help in any way that they can- from the individuals that they support to the case managers who have joined their teams.

Outside of Columbus: I am married and have 3 children. I have 3 girls that all play soccer since they have been 4 years old and they also swim for age group swim. I help coach swimming for age group swim and have swam since I was 10 years old. I love being outdoors- hiking, riding bikes and swimming.

Angela Parrott, Case Manager

Experience: I have been in the social work field for twenty two years.  I have worked mainly with children, both in a residential setting and in foster care.  During this time, I have provided case management services to youth, as well as to their families.  I have also licensed families to become foster parents, I have attended court hearings, I have led and attended team meetings, I have supervised visits, I have helped train new hires, and I have led trainings.  Although I do not have any professional experience with the waiver program, I did assist my mom with getting on the Aged and Disabled Waiver and have done some research on the Family Support Waiver and the CIH Waiver.

Why I joined Columbus: I have always had a heart for helping others and being an advocate for those who do not always have a voice of their own.  In the past I have worked with youth who have disabilities, which I have enjoyed.  I believe that everyone deserves to live their best life and to have their needs met, and I feel this is something that I can help our clients do.

How I explain Columbus to others: I tell others that I am working with youth and adults who have either the Family and Support Waiver or the CIH Waiver through the BDDS programI explain that I help set up services for these individuals, that I make sure the services are going well, that I help with budgeting their money through the waiver, and that I have meeting with the rest of the team.

Outside of Columbus: I have been married for 17 years and I have 2 children.  My son is 16 years old and he is active in Cross Country, Track, and Band.  My daughter is 12 years old and is active in Golf, Tennis, and Band.  I love spending time with my family and I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, watching true crime series and comedies, and I love listening to music.

Trevor Peaslee, Case Manager

Experience: 9.5+ years in Case Management.

Why I joined Columbus: I have been a case manager for almost 10 years and love being able to help families and consumers.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Fort Wayne team is all very helpful and connected with one another. There are many wonderful Case Managers who want to help as many people in need as possible.

Outside of Columbus: I am the father of two beautiful kiddos, Finian (age 4), and Lettie (age 2). My wife, Katrina, is also a part-time Case Manager with Columbus. We run a Junior Soccer League together in Leo, Indiana, where I am also the Middle School, and High School coach on the boys side. I played college soccer at IPFW in the early 2000’s.

Paula Petsel, Case Manager

Experience: With a robust background in education and casework, I have dedicated my career to supporting and meeting the diverse needs of children, individuals, and families.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization to continue my path of advocating for and empowering individuals to thrive academically, socially, and personally. 

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization seeks out compassionate, caring individuals to work with consumers to ensure they receive the necessary resources and services to help them thrive.  Everyone in the organization works together for the common goal of helping people. 

Outside of Columbus: When I am not working, you can find me in my art studio painting or creating art with colored pencils.  Each weekend, you can find me hiking all over Indiana.

Josh Poor, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in the field for many years. I have worked as a DSP, a Job Coach and as a Community Employment Supervisor. I have also worked in Mental Health before joining The Columbus Organization.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization to be able to better advocate for those we serve and ensure they receive the proper services and supports to allow them to live their best lives.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe our organization as one that ensures those that receive the Medicaid Waiver have a voice and receive the supports needed to ensure that they lead their version of their best life.

Outside of Columbus: Outside of Columbus, I am a father to two beautiful girls Emma and Carly. My oldest child Emma has Cerebral Palsy which brings an added passion for my career. My wife Olivia also is a Case Manager. I also run a bowling Pro Shop in two cities and coach youth bowlers. I love to listen to music and grill and just enjoy life.

Alexis Pryce, Case Manager

Experience: I have been with The Columbus Organization since November of 2021.  Before case management, I was a certified police officer in the state of Indiana for 3 years.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined The Columbus Organization because my favorite part of law enforcement was meeting people/ families and taking time to know them.  Being a part of Columbus gives me the opportunity to meet so many individuals and their families and become an integral part of their needs.

Elizabeth Rayl, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in the field of disability services for over ten years. In that time, I have worked as a Pre School-Special Education Assistant, Registered Behavior Technician, and Employment Specialist. I have worked with individuals ranging in age from 3 to 70, with varying different abilities and diagnoses.   

Why I joined Columbus: I have had a passion for helping others reach their dreams and achieve their goals for as long as I can remember. I joined Columbus because I wanted to have a more profound impact on the lives of others and make a difference in a more consistent way. I feel drawn to advocate for others and to help others learn more effective methods of advocating for themselves.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is an organization that strives to create person-centered planning throughout our community. Columbus offers a vast variety of knowledge and experience from their case managers, who work together as a cohesive team to ensure individuals are provided the most appropriate, meaningful supports possible.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy spending time with my family, which consists of my husband, 4 children, and a new cat. My favorite activities include supporting my children in sports and show choir, photography, and watching Indianapolis Colts football with my family. Patricia Reed, Case Manager

Experience: Previous experience at ATEC Associates, Answers for Autism, About Special Kids (ASK) and have been at Columbus for 7+ years.

Why I joined Columbus: Having a child with disabilities and knowing the difficulties parents have in finding programs and support for their child and the family made me want to help other families navigate this new world they find themselves in. I started supporting families in my previous work with About Special Kids (now Family 2 Family) and I wanted to expand on that, so I sought out a job as a Case Manager.  I want to use my experience as the mother of an adult with disabilities to help the individuals I serve live their best life. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus Organization is a provider of Case Management Services to individuals on the Family Support, CIH and A&D waiver. Columbus Case Mangers provide services in the entire state of Indiana and several other states.

Outside of Columbus: I have two adult twin children and enjoy spending time with them. I enjoy crafting and visiting new places. When my daughter became an adult and was unable to work in a typical employment setting, her team and I decided to help her start a business making jewelry. In my free time, I work with my daughter teaching her new skills and attending info fair and craft shows where she can sell her jewelry.

Michelle Robbins, Case Manager

Experience: I have 7 ½ years of experience as a waiver case manager and a total of 25 years of experience working with disabilities. My experience includes mental health clinical care coordinator, QIDP, Program Manager, Home Manager, DSP, wrap facilitator at ISBVI.

Why I joined Columbus: After leaving my previous case management company, I tried a new career path and decided that my heart is still with the individuals and families that the waivers provide support and services to.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is dedicated to allowing time for growing relationships and personal attention with the individuals and families that we serve.

Outside of Columbus: I have been married for almost 27 years and we have two adult sons. I have lived in Greensburg most of my life. I enjoy reading, gardening and going to sporting events with my husband.

Molly Robinett, Case Manager

Experience: Almost 4 years as a Team Lead Case Manager and another 1.5 years as a case manager.

Why I joined Columbus: I enjoyed my time working with families and helping our individuals live their best lives.

How I explain Columbus to others: We assist people with intellectual and physical disabilities achieve their independence and live their lives to the fullest.

Outside of Columbus: I am a wife and mother. I have two kids. My son, Parks, is 5 and my daughter, Rue, is 2. My husband and I own a construction business and we enjoy working on our home, riding our golf cart with our kids, and traveling. We spend a lot of time in Florida, and CrossFit is one of my passions.

Magaly Ruelas, Case Manager

Experience: Started with Columbus in December of 2021, this is my first time being a case manager. Before case managing, I was an inside sales rep at Essex and before that I was a CNA at St. Annes Nursing home in the dementia unit. 

Why I joined Columbus: I always wanted to work helping people and having a meaningful job. 

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is a great organization that has a team of individuals who assist children and adults with disabilities to achieve a meaningful life. 

Outside of Columbus: I am a mother to a 7-year-old girl. I spend a lot of my free time just spending time with my family, daughter, fiancé and labradoodle. I am a soon to be wife, planning a wedding for June 2024. I love to travel, I’ve been to Mexico, The United Emirates, and Greece.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is a good support and resource in navigating the waiver community. I love what The Columbus Organization stands for. I love that their philosophy is person centered.

Outside of Columbus: I have been involved with multiple organizations and support groups, due to my little brother, having been diagnosed with autism at an early age. It has molded my life in a positive way. I have a passion for advocating and supporting families and individuals in the waiver field. in my free time. I enjoy spending time with my children. Kaylie Savoy, Case Manager

Why I joined Columbus: I chose to join the Columbus Organization so that I could continue serving others and assisting those individuals with achieving their definition of a meaningful day and life.

Outside of Columbus: I was born and raised in Muncie, Indiana. I continue to live in Muncie with my husband and daughter. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family.

Education: I attended Muncie Community Schools. I graduated from Southside High School in 2013. I then began attending the University of Arizona Global Campus in 2019. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Applied Behavioral Sciences in July of 2021.

Amanda “Mandy” Schmitz, Case Manager

Experience: I have twenty plus years’ experience in the Social Work field. I have been in Case Management working with Medicaid Waiver Programs since 2010 and with The Columbus Organization since 2017.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I wanted to return to working with individuals challenged by intellectual or developmental disabilities as well as the families.  I chose to work for Columbus because of their reputation of empowering the individuals and families we serve to reach their goals.   

How I explain Columbus to others: I described Columbus as the best Case Management provider in Indiana.  We have an amazing team of Case Managers that work hard to support the individuals and families we serve.   We also have great leadership and always work together as a team to support each other in supporting our individuals and families.  We are more than a team, we are family!

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy watching my daughter play volleyball and Lacrosse. I also love traveling and spending time with friends.

Stacey Schnell, Case Manager

Experience: I have a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. I worked in Applied Behavioral Analysis for over two years until I became a Case Manager for the Department of Child Services. After a year at DCS, I began working for a nonprofit organization that served families with complex needs involved in Child Welfare. Missing working with those who have intellectual and physical disabilities, I came to work for the Columbus Organization in 2023.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because of my passion for working with those who have intellectual and physical disabilities. I want to work with others who strive towards making life the best it can be for individuals with special needs.

Outside of Columbus: I was born and raised in Indiana and have lived here most of my life. I am a mom to four beautiful FUR babies, two kitties named Jax and Arlo, a Golden Retriever named Lemon, and a Chocolate Lab named Harvey. I married my husband in the fall of 2020. I love to read, practice self-care, and travel. My favorite place in the world is anywhere out West in the mountains.

Kimberly Seibold, Case Manager

Why I joined Columbus: Columbus has a lot of great benefits for their employees, as well as a reasonable caseload which allows the CM’s to provide quality care to the people we serve. I joined Columbus so I can make a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

How I explain Columbus to others:

I describe Columbus as an organization that cares about the people served and has guidelines in place to ensure quality care is provided. I also believe Columbus is a company that values their employee’s work/life balance. I feel this is a rare combination, but something I very much respect and appreciate.

Outside of Columbus: I am a mother of two (son who is 18 and daughter who is 7) and I enjoy staying busy with my children’s school events, sports, and other activities. I enjoy kayaking, walking, swimming, and just about anything outdoors. I have four cats and, in the future, would love to foster cats as well. 

Education: I attended Manchester High School and was inducted into the National Honor Society. I then attended Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion where I originally studied Elementary Education but changed my major to Psychology.

Natalie Shobe, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in the Intellectual Developmental Disabilities for over 16 years. I have experience working in residential programing, day programing, employment, as well as large ICFMR and facility-based supports. I work diligently to advocate for individuals and their families as well as the ability to establish strong relationships.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus because I wanted to work for a case management company that has a great reputation. I have worked on the provider side and Columbus is one of the case management companies that is spoken of very highly.  Integrity is very important to me personally and The Columbus Organization values integrity.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus values quality work and demands the best for the individuals we are supporting.  They support their staff and value their employees.   While they expect quality work from all employees, at the same time they encourage us to work to maintain a good work life balance.

Katelyn Short, Case Manager

Experience: I started working with individuals with disabilities while I was in college by tutoring elementary school students who received Special Education. After completing college, I worked with a residential provider as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional overseeing the care for several people living in supported living sites and family homes. I have been working as a Case Manager since July of 2016.

Why I joined Columbus: I transitioned to The Columbus Organization in the middle of November 2021 because I have a passion for helping others and strive to help individuals reach their highest potential of independence. I take great patience, understanding, and care when working with my families and teams to develop a platform for each individual’s vision for their lives.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is a company with professional, supportive, and caring employees who put their people first.

Outside of Columbus: Outside of work I am a partner, stepparent, and a dog mom. I absolutely love dogs, shopping, and traveling with family and friends.

Kelly Sienicki, Case Manager

Why I joined Columbus: My previous CMGT (Case Management) company was not chosen by the state and after looking at The Columbus Organization’s website I found it was the place that would fit the best. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Resources of a large company with service and support of a neighborhood or mom & pop business. 

Outside of Columbus: I had to leave education in February 2019 to care for my husband after he injured himself severely including a TBI. Case management kept me in the realm that I already felt passionate about and allowed me to work from home much of the time. I am a person of deep faith and study. I love spending time with my extended family. I have become an avid traveler and enjoyed trips within the United States as well as to Scotland, England, and Israel. I recently completed my 2nd college course at Grace College, and I can read and write Biblical Hebrew. I am an avid reader, reading approximately 10 books per month. I enjoy cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and watching all things connected to the NFL. I love flower gardens, watching superhero movies and shows, and being outside. I am a people person and enjoy laughing and living life to the fullest. People are my jamb, and all people bring me joy.

Brittany Simcox, Case Manager

Experience: I’ve worked in the field since 2009. I have been a case manager since 2015.

Why I joined Columbus: I was excited to be able to join an established team that I knew was committed to the people we serve. 

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is committed to supporting its staff and those they serve with both respect and compassion. I have enjoyed working here!

Outside of Columbus: I am happily married with 2 kids. We spend most of our time either at the soccer or baseball fields, as well as spending time together. When I do have free time, I like to read and spend time with friends.

Juliane Sluss, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked as a case manager since December of 2008. Prior to working in case management I worked in nursing homes in social services for 4 years. I worked for a provider for a total of 5 years doing direct care and working as a case coordinator. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because of their focus on being person centered and because of their diligence in keeping caseload sizes manageable.

Selena Stankovic, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in the field in various capacities since 2000.  I have worked with providers for the first 9 years as a Program Coordinator/Director in a Semi-Independent living program and spent 5 years as a Social Service Consultant for nursing homes in the Midwest.  I have spent 10 years working as a Case Manager for the Medicaid Waiver program.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because I heard from fellow colleagues that it was a great place to work.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is a case management company serving those across the country in the human service field.

Outside of Columbus: My husband and I have 2 teenage daughters who are involved in school sports.  Most of our time is consumed taking them to sports and watching them participate in those sports.  We enjoy spending time with our friends, enjoy traveling to new places, hiking, attending concerts,  rides in our Jeep and spending our weekends at the lake in the summer.

Experience: I’ve worked as a Case Manager for a little over two years. Before I started Case managing, I contracted as a sign language interpreter – including in case management settings!

Why I joined Columbus: I wanted to work in a setting where I could still serve the Deaf community, but in a different compacity and Columbus made that happen!

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is focuses on providing exemplary person centered service and does well supporting the individuals they serve, as well as their case managers!

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy being outside, baking, crocheting, and spending time with my fiancé and friends!

Cassandra Straessle, Case Manager

Experience: I joined the Columbus team in July 2018 and work as a Case Manager for FSW and CIH clients. While receiving my education, I served as a liaison and advocate in the educational setting to help individuals with disabilities meet their academic goals. My experience provided me with the opportunity to create meaningful relationships and goal setting strategies to best fit the needs of individuals and their families.

Experience: I have been working with Medicaid waiver participants for 4 years, prior to that, I served as a Family Case Manager for Bartholomew County DCS. My passion is advocacy.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization when my son received his diagnosis of Prader Wili Syndrome and was approved for the Family Support Waiver. As a parent the waiver world seemed like a new world full of possibilities and I needed help navigating all of the resources my son could benefit from. I know I could be a source of advocacy for others as I am my own son.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization is person centered, we value the individuals that we work with and are consistently striving for their independence and improved quality of life.

Outside of Columbus: I am a mom of three, so I stay busy. From sports to camping trips, my kids and I always seem to be on the go.

Experience: I have many years of experience providing support, intervention, and prevention to families through my work as a community liaison, case manager, and mental health therapist. I am involved with organizations in my community promoting wellness and access to services.

Adriana Torres, Case Manager

Experience: I have over 20 years’ experience in the social service field. I am also a volunteer at Down Syndrome Indiana as an Interpreter for their Latino support group Cuenta Conmigo and have been volunteering for the past seven years. I also have worked under the Salvation Army with their Women’s Day Program where I provided support and advocacy to the homeless women population, and in some cases their families as well. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because I wanted to pursue my purpose for living in the field of Case Management and after reading about all the services that the Columbus Organization provides and how strong they work in building bridges in the lives of those that we serve, I knew then that I wanted to also be part of their organization. 

How I explain Columbus to others: I consider the Columbus Organization as a second home. It’s a place that has employees that treat each other as family. But most important because we value being a family organization, it helps us be more understanding and familiar with the struggles and the needs of those families that we serve. It also makes us work harder in finding solutions to better the quality of life of those that we serve.

Nichole Upton, Case Manager

Experience: I worked as a direct support staff for ones with disabilities while working on my degree in social work. Upon completion of my bachelor’s degree, I became a QDDP for the same company. I was there a total of ten years prior to starting my family.

Why I joined Columbus: I have been home with the girls for the past three years, enjoying every second of life with them. But, when I saw The Columbus Organization was hiring for my area, I just knew I could not pass the opportunity up. The flexibility is ideal and the work I do is very rewarding.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe my job at Columbus as working with children and adults with developmental disabilities to ensure they get the best care and services available to them.

Outside of Columbus: I have been married for ten years, a cat mom for nine years, a dog mom for eight years, and a human mom for three years. My husband’s name is Nathan, our cat’s names are Aldean, Miss Kitty, and Waylon. Our dog’s name is Charli and the humans are three-year old twin girls, Blakleigh and Brileigh. I love to garden, cook, organize, mow, shop, and hangout with my family and friends!

Amanda VanZile, Case Manager

Experience: I started as a DSP in 2008. After working as a DSP and getting my BA, I went on to be a case manager for clients with mental illness and addictions. I found my way back to the field in 2019 when I ran a dual diagnosis program in Michigan. I moved to Indiana and worked in upper management for residential providers before coming to Columbus.

Why I joined Columbus: I joined Columbus to better serve clients she is accustomed to working with, and to better support and advocate for those who want to live a life of their choosing.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus is made up of people who truly care and want to make a difference in the lives of those they serve. Columbus has knowledgeable case managers who work as a team!

Outside of Columbus: I am a proud mother of 3 children, two of which have been diagnosed with ASD. I spend my free time with my kids and their fur babies. I enjoy being in nature, especially the beach. I am working on finishing my master’s degree in marriage and family therapy.

Sarah Ventura, Case Manager

Experience: 2.5 years of work as a direct support professional and 2 years as a Program Coordinator working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Why I joined Columbus: I have worked in the field for many years and found myself drawn back to the field. I enjoy helping others and watching people reach their goals and I love that I can make a difference in someone’s life.

How I explain Columbus to others: We provide case management services to individuals with developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life and promote success in individual goals.

Outside of Columbus: I have a 19 and 3 year old daughters that I enjoy spending most of my time with outside of work. I love to be outside and take my two dogs for walks whenever I can. I love to read and garden in my free time.

Crystal Wenzler, Case Manager

Experience: Case manager for 22+ years.

Why I joined Columbus: I heard that Columbus treats their case managers well. They give me the space to be myself, while getting things done in a timely manner. They do not micromanage.

How I explain Columbus to others: Columbus has many experienced case manager’s that care. The focus is on quality case management and not necessarily quantity.

Outside of Columbus: I enjoy face and body painting and doing makeup.  I am able to transform myself into various celebrities.

Casarah Wolfe, Case Manager

Experience: I have worked in Social work for roughly 6 years. I worked at BDDS for about a year as an intake and targeting coordinator helping people apply for the waiver as well as connecting applicants with a case management agency. 

Why I joined Columbus: I joined the Columbus Organization because of their desire/mission to help individuals by providing support in all needed areas of life.

How I explain Columbus to others: I describe our organization as a friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable team of case managers whose mission is to help others live their best life through waiver services and community resources. 

Outside of Columbus: I love to be outside in the sun. I love working out and thrive to live a healthy life.

Calise Zollinger, Case Manager

Experience: Case Manager for 7 years

Why I joined Columbus: We believe that everyone deserves a meaningful life.  I feel that everyone deserves an advocate and someone that is fighting for what they believe their good life to be.

How I explain Columbus to others: The Columbus Organization serves those that deserve a good and meaningful life.

Outside of Columbus: I am a mother of 7 children and wife to a finance director. I love football, reading, and serving in my community.

Juana King, Director of Quality Assurance

Experience: I have a history of working in the Criminal Justice Field, I worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections for 10 years, starting as a Senior Correctional Officer after two years, promoted to Intake/Transportation Department Head Supervisor.  I have 17 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with Developmental Disabilities. Ten of those 17 years, I worked in Group Homes, Supportive Living, and Adult Day Program as a Program Director. I began working with The Columbus Organization as a Case Manager for Indiana and later in New Jersey, as a Support Coordinator. In 2019, I was promoted to NJ & IN QEC and in 2022 I was promoted to my current position as Director of Quality Assurance-Indiana.

Why I joined Columbus: There’s several reasons why I joined Columbus but to name a few, I wanted to advocate and provide supports and resources for individuals and their families. My passions stem around my love for helping and assisting people, I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, so they would be equipped to live their lives at full capacity. 

How I describe Columbus to others: I let others know that Columbus is a great organization to work for, and well versatile. Executive Leadership provides ongoing support throughout each state being served, maintains an opened door policy, career advancements and promotions. Columbus provides an enormous amount of resources to assist children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities to live meaningful lives. 

Outside of Columbus: I love spending time with my family and friends, faith-based assembly gatherings, vacationing, reading, bowling league, and gardening.
